ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

In this workshop, Alaa will share methods and tools for journaling that help us make sense of the chaos we might feel within ourselves and in our daily lives. It’s a spontaneous way to express and document moments, and to give importance to things that might seem “unimportant” or ordinary. We will reflect on the rhythm of our lives by combining several approaches—from writing, drawing, and taking photos, to sketching, collage, and experimenting with colors and ink. The workshop is not limited to writers or artists. Anyone who finds it difficult to express themselves, feels too lazy to turn their scattered thoughts into something meaningful, or simply wants to gain new and simple creative expression skills is very welcome to join.

ABOUT ALAA AL-BANNAN:

Alaa Al-Bannan is a writer, an editor, and an editorial designer. She studied media and translation and works in the field of Arts and Culture. She has designed and led numerous art and creative writing workshops in several cultural spaces such as Cairo Institute for Liberal Arts and Sciences, Wabi Sabi, and Alwan w Awtar. She participated in many cultural programs and produced several art books, expressing herself through a combination of different media, such as writing, drawing, and collage. She is currently interested in independent art book publishing through her project “Swimming with the Whales”, which has now become a collective of 5 artists.
