ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

During this workshop, Marina will walk you through:

  • Brief history: What’s relief printing and how it started.
  • Design Transfer: how to draw and then transfer an image onto your lino block, remembering that text and images will appear mirrored in the final print.
  • Tool Safety: how to safely hold and use carving gouges (V-cutters and U-cutters) Carving Techniques: how to achieve an interesting composition and carve different textures and patterns.
  • Carving Techniques: how to achieve an interesting composition and carve different textures and patterns.
  • Inking and Printing: how to apply ink with a brayer and use a disc barren to print in register with the correct amount of ink and pressure.

All tools and materials are provided just bring an apron or an old shirt to protect your clothes.

ABOUT MARINA MAGED:

Marina Maged is a printmaker, illustrator, and graphic designer who graduated from the Graphic Design Department at the German University in Cairo (GUC) in 2019. Her professional experience includes five years as a teaching assistant and acting supervisor in the lino printing and letterpress workshops at the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Arts (FASA), where she explored blending traditional techniques with modern design. Her work draws inspiration from visual storytelling, fairy tales, the female experience, and vibrant colors; through her prints and educational workshops, she aims to introduce more people to the art of printmaking.
